weekend workout & workout wear 25

It's fall and that means you'll be indulging in one too many pumpkin spice lattes or cinnamon sugar covered donuts!  Get up and get fit; the weekend is no excuse.   This workout is simple, and only requires a few light hand weights.

I move into my new apartment this weekend!  I can't wait to show snaps of the new place! :)
Hope you all enjoy your weekend!

weekend workout & workout wear

This is the type of workout outfit that would carry you through your Saturday.  I typically do not condone wearing yoga pants outside of the house.  I believe it sends a sloppy message.   However, if you're going to rock the workout style running errands or to a sporting event (your kid's soccer game included!).  Be sure you look put together.  A sporty top and cute kicks are the way to go!

Now, here's a workout for you before you hit your "to do" list!

Warm up with jumping jacks and jogging in place for 2-5 minutes.
1 min Squat with Arm Curl
1 min Jump Rope
1 min Push Ups
1 min Russian Twists

1 min Straight Leg Dead Lift
1 min Arm Rows
1 min Sit Ups
1 min Plank Hold

30 seconds Squat Jumps
1 min Walk Out
30 second Two Feet Side to Side Plank Hops
1 min Side Plank Crunches (30 seconds each side)
1 min Plank Walks

Repeat

Drink plenty of water, it's hot out there!

weekend workout & workout wear

You ever have those weekends where you can barely think about what's coming next let alone workout?  I do, this weekend in particular is extra busy.  Maybe I just feel that way because I'm coming off of vacation, anyhow it's a killer one.  So this is when I look to the moves that I know myself and I try to make up my own quicky workout to do before hopping in the shower.

Here's what I'll be doing this morning -

30 walking lunges
30 push ups
30 sit ups
30 dips
30 squats
30 jumping jacks

repeat 2x's

Quick and easy.  You can add weights to the walking lunges if you prefer and/or need some added resistance.

Enjoy it!

weekend workout & workout wear

For this weeks edition of "Weekend Workout & Workout Wear" I wanted to go back to a no weights needed type of workout.   With vacation season approaching it's nice to have some ideas you can do on the go with little to no equipment.

This HIIT (High Intensity Interval Training) workout is easy, slightly fun, and requires nothing but your self motivation.

3 Rounds
20 Push Ups
30 Sit Ups
30 Burpees
50 Squats

Be sure you have water near by!

Here's a video tutorial for how to do a burpee!

Weekend Workout & Workout Wear

It usually starts in January.  The resolutions for bikini bodies.  But, if you aren't already working THE TIME IS NOW!  If you follow along you know that I usually post a workout on Saturdays.   But obtaining the ideal body health means treating your body like a temple from the inside out.  What I mean is, what you eat.   Losing weight and maintaining a healthy lifestyle is 75-80% diet before exercise.  You absolutely can max out your results by working out 4-6 times a week, however if you're eating pizza and beer every night for dinner you will likely maintain your current weight or gain more.

What I like to do to kickstart my metabolism and healthy eating is a good ole cleanse.  I typically do a 30 day strict Paleo, but my sister Sara likes to do an Advocare cleanse.   Advocare is a supplement program that promotes health and wellness from the inside out.  Their cleanse is a 10 day cycle where you eat mostly vegetables and meat and supplement in your vitamins, caffeine {from their Spark product, no coffee! :( }, and meal replacement shakes.  If you feel you need more guidance to kick start your healthy lifestyle visit Advocare!

Now that I've blabbed on... on to the workout this week!
Let's start with a good cardio burn!

Warm up with:
1 min Jog in Place
1 min Jumping Jacks
2 min Straight Leg Kicks

3, 2, 1...GO!
1 min Push Ups {if you need to modify, that is OK!}
30 sec Plank Hold
1 min Burpee {to modify, step your feet out one at a time instead of jumping out at the bottom}
2 min Side Lunge, alternating
30 sec Side to Side Hops {be sure feet are together}
2 min Squats
1 min Hip Lifts*
1 min Opposite Arm to Leg Extension*
30 sec Cross Back Lunge*
30 sec Side to Side Hops
30 sec Push Ups
30 sec Alternating Lunges
1 min Reverse Crunches
30 sec Squat Jumps

...And repeat.

Drink lots of water and be sure you cool down by walking around for a few minutes and stretching your muscles.

Weekend Workout & Workout Wear

Coming off of spring break isn't easy!  I wasn't off all week last week, however, I did extend my weekend and I know how stressful getting back to the grind can be.  This weekend take some time for yourself and stretch out all the stress from your life.  Early morning yoga is what saved me from loosing my mind this week at work.  It's still challenging enough to feel as though I've gotten in a great workout leaving you feeling rejuvenated afterwards.

If you aren't a member at a gym where they have classes available, that's O.K.!  I use an app on my iPhone called Pocket Yoga (also available for you Android users).  It was $4.99 which seems expensive for an app, right?  Nada folks - I use this app at least 3 times a week on a regular basis.  When I'm having a stressful week it seems to be even more.  Sometimes on a Saturday I'll get this out even in the middle of the day if I find I'm bored and online shopping or about to hit the mall.    The fee is definitely justified!

The workouts come in 30, 45, and 60 minute sessions, beginner, intermediate and advanced.  I would not suggest trying advanced unless you are absolutely sure you are ready for it.  Let's just say I wish I were a fly on my own wall trying that one!!

Give it a try and let me know what you think!

Weekend Workout & Workout Wear

This weekend's workout is to go OUTSIDE and try a 5K run (3.2 mi)!

There are a lot of great smartphone apps out there to track your progress.  I use the Nike Plus Running app, it's free in the app store for iPhone and tracks your pace and distance.  It will also play music if you choose to have some.   After your run you will receive a blip of encouraging words from a familiar sports professional (probably Tim Tebow, which to me isn't particularly encouraging.  But maybe to you it is..) and it will show you the map of your run.  It is a really useful training tool if you are new to running.
