5 fall to winter essentials via pinterest

There are a few things I'm obsessing over this fall/winter.  Especially when the winter weather starts a blowing like it is now in the Northeast.   These transitional pieces are no brainers and I'm sure you're just as obsessed as I am; but, I thought I'd share through some of my favorite recent pins.

A chunky knit to wear over and over.  Honestly, the few I have I would love to put on weekly rotation.  I love the cream with the leopard, brown gloves, black leggings, cognac boots - perfection.  I wish I had a cream chunky turtleneck to imitate this look.

Blair wraps herself in the infamous Zara blanket scarf.  I have a similar scarf from Charlotte Russe that I cannot stop wearing, too.  The flannel material keeps you warm while the plaid pattern keeps you chic.

Layers, layers, layers!  I would have never thought to put a button up under a turtleneck like this image.   It works, though I tell you!

The statement coat.  I love the fur in the first image (we all know my love for the faux fur) paired with the bold red it works as the perfect pop of color and interest.
The jacket in the second image I just want to curl under.  I'm not certain I would go out in the cold with seemingly wet hair as this girl did, however, if I were to I would most definitely wrap up in a cozy coat.  The love the lines on this coat with the classic silhouette.

Fur all day long.  I can't stop reaching for more inspiration on how to wear my fur vests.  They've become such staples in my closet I even find myself thinking I wear them too often - as if that's a thing.

snow!

poncho - ny&co, similar / shirt - old navy / jeans - gap / boots - ugg

As I wait for a crippling snow storm I'm happy to be home safe with no where to go tonight and a prayer for a snow day from work!
Can we talk about this poncho for a sec? Yeah? Ok, cool - I love this thing.  I got it on super clearance a few Christmas' ago (we always shop the day after Christmas!) and it's so versatile and classic.  It's like wearing a blanket, it's so cozy!
I also love this plaid top -it's the perfect flatter to loose ratio and it's on sale right now.  Go, go now.

moto jacket styles to rev your engine

The Moto Jacket is classic piece that can be worn many ways.  I love how SeeJane styled it here, and was inspired to put together a few style boards.
Moto Jackets are the perfect transition piece, they go great over flouncy frocks to get you through fall and are a great layer over a sweater to carry into winter.
I've styled three styles below; the classic, the vest, and quilted.

A classic moto can be worn with anything but I love pairing it with an unexpected tank or shell, fun flat booties and a pop of color.  This outfit is perfect for a weekend lunch, errands, or a casual party.

In my moto searches I came across this Vince Camuto vest - drool!! Not only are vests hot this season but a quilted, moto style?  Can you fit anymore trends into one spectacular piece?
I styled this layered over a slouchy cowell neck sweater, legging jeans and interesting accessories.  I love adding pops of color this time of year.  It adds interest and a bit of an unexpected flair to your look.

This quilted jacket was another trendy moto I found perusing the internets. I love it's super casual feel.  Layered over a graphic tee with boyfriends and oxfords this look is great for a Sunday brunch or lunch with your gals.

10 classic pieces to upgrade for fall!

I'm not the only one with the fall season on the brain!  I was going to do this whole "what I would wear to New York Fashion Week" and couldn't think of anything except lush cozy sweaters, soft denim and ankle booties.   So I went with this instead!
It was a goal of mine this year to upgrade my wardrobe to have mostly classic and timeless pieces with a few trendy items thrown in the mix here and there.  I've done a decent job achieving that; but, every season change I come up with a new list of basics/wardrobe staples that either need upgrading or that I just lack period.
I rounded up a few things that I think every gal needs to head into chilly weather!

1. a cute crew cut sweater - there are plenty of printed lightweight sweaters all over the place right now and what a perfect layering piece!?
2. a lux sweatshirt - this houndstooth one from J.Crew Factory is to die for!
3. the boyfriend button up - this patterned one is a new twist on a classic look.  I want one in every color and pattern they are so versatile; pair them with jeans, pencil skirts or dress pants.
4. a neutral poncho - great to throw on to run errands or to wear lounging.  It's like wearing a blanket... except way sexier than a snuggy.
5. dark wash boyfriend jeans - we all know my obsession for boyfriend jeans... I say no more.
6. leopard - whether skimmers, loafers, a bag, a jacket.  Something!
7. ankle boots! GREAT for transitioning summer dresses into fall and paired with distressed jeans?  amaze-balls.
8. utility jacket - or vest! either is super chic and adds a bit of edge to any outfit.
9. a puffer vest - great layering piece! I love mine, however may be looking for one with a collar and no hood this season.
10. wellies - this is a fall must have.  Everything is so wet and gross on the ground; you'll need these to keep you clean, dry and adorable of course.

Are you updating any basics this season?  Which are your favorites!?

wear now & later - burgundy!

If you've been reading the past few weeks you know that I've got fall on the mind.  Big time! The weather lately has been telling us it's coming sooner than I think we're ready to admit.  But, that doesn't mean summer's over - nor, does it mean that we can't take some of falls trendiest colors and rock them early.  I love the color burgundy!!  It reminds me of when I was a kid, totally had this awesome suede burgundy Arizona brand vest...  Yep - 90's child!

I would definitely play with tones here - in the first look I've paired a boyfriend fit pant with some glitz and glam.  I added a hot pink hand bag to bring out the pinker hues in the pant and make them seem more summery!

In the second look I'm featuring this blazer (again - I'm a little obsessed ok?) with more peachy tones.  The leopard flats and darker accessories bring this look into the cooler weather while keeping it fun and transitional!

12 transitional pieces to take you from summer to fall

AH! I said it.  Transitional from summer to fall...  sorry not sorry, but it's happening.  And although I may be a bit premature the cooler weather is most definitely pushing me in the fall direction.  I tried to choose pieces that you may already have from either last season or this summer.  Let's go down the list -

fall transitional pieces.

1. Denim Vest - the slightly cooler version of the denim jacket. This is slightly more versatile especially for a transition season!  Layer this over a tshirt dress now and a sweater later!

2. Utility Jacket - The perfect throw over on a cooler summer night in front of a camp fire.  Equally perfect on a cool fall day with a tshirt and jeans.  This is a must-have!

3. Striped Sweater - duh, do I have to explain?  We all know I'm obsessed with stripes...

4. Jewel toned shell - jewel tones are amazing for fall to show off your summer tan and layer under more earthy toned suits and casual wear.

5. Leopard Flats - another duh moment. Really keeping my eye on these Madewell skimmers... I want them!

6. Sueded loafers - so cute with shorts and button up now for a casual weekend look and pair them with boyfriend jeans and a slouchy sweater later!

7. Floral Top - This is great now with a pencil skirt, shorts, you name it.  Bring it into fall with a utility jacket and boyfriend jeans or denim jacket and earthy colored pants.

8. Boyfriend Jeans - I wear mine constantly, they are amazing with a wide variety of shoes and tops.

9. Dark Wash Jeans - a nice dark wash just looks great with knee high boots and flats.

10.  Pants in Earthy Tones - what a better way to celebrate foliage than with earthy tones?  They're great for spring through fall.

11. Ankle Boots - easily worn with dresses now and skinny or boyfriend jeans later

12. Jewel toned flats - every girl needs some fun flats to rock.  Beautiful colored flats keep fall interesting!
